   Home      About Don Neufeld

My career spans 26 years of practice, initially in child protection services, where my clinical skills were in high demand working with families in crisis. My masters level education in social work focused on working with individuals, families, and groups, and regular training throughout my career has kept me current and broadened my knowledge and skills. My transition to private clinical practice in 2010 included a time of personal discernment, reflection, and continuing education.  I continue to pursue opportunities for professional growth to stay current and to provide you with the best possible service.  I am active in the Niagara Branch of the Ontario Association of Social Workers.

I believe firmly that the provision of a safe and nurturing environment for guided self-reflection, as individuals, couple or family, is the key for exploring those realities that hinder optimal growth and fulfillment in life. Whether it is a critical incident or an accumulation of experiences that brings one to seek counselling, the opportunity to honestly explore the dynamics of life, supported and challenged by a qualified and caring professional, can lead to the achievement of one’s personal goals. As an experienced professional, my commitment is to provide this environment to my clients. I approach service provision in a holistic way, respecting my clients’ beliefs and values, and choices in life. Having studied in a multi-faith setting, I welcome the inclusion of matters of faith and spirituality where this is important to my clients. My approach is solution focused and strengths based.

Though my general practice welcomes all people, I have extensive experience and interest in working with matters related to men and masculinity, including emotional regulation and anger, mental health, relationships, parenting, custody of and access to children, shame, stress, careers and aging.  A respectful and welcoming environment encourages men (and those who live in relationship with men) to consider their unique experiences and needs for maximizing their well-being and in turn positively impacting those they love.

As a provider with Health Canada's Non-insured Health Benefits Program and Indian Residential School Resolution Health Support Program, I am able to access funding to provide counselling services to the Indigenous community in Niagara.  With 6 years of relationship with service providers and individuals within the Indigenous community, I am honoured to be able to provide such a service.
